I was wondering if anyone on the forum bred plecos, especially fancy ones.

I'm not sure. I've heard somewhere that they like clay pots for breeding. That's about all I know.

My husband is researching pleco breeding. He wants to breed Rhino plecos. They are a mudbank spawner, and he is going to build a pool on the back porch this summer for them.
His goal is to get them to spawn successfully in a small pool, then back that down to the point he can do it in an aquarium.
These fish are either wild caught or only bred in large farms.

That sounds cool. I hope you are successful. I think I'd like to eventually breed the little clown plecos.

LOL my husband can't do anything small. I'd rather do some exotic L number, or something that stays a reasonable size. Rhinos get 9+ inches, and that's what he likes.

That's funny, my husband is the same way, he wants all of our aquarium fish to be the size of dinner plates! Eventually I want to try and breed the clown plecos because they are a much more reasonable size and yet they are still pretty! Plus, their preferred breeding conditions match the water coming from the tap in my area so I wouldn't have to do a whole lot of craziness setting up things up for them. I just love the one I have now!
