I did probably my largest update of my Aquarium Redox Article since I originally wrote it. With a new Basics section at the top, more in the Aquarium Applications section about 3/4 into the article and more to the summary as well. I hope this helps explain this aspect of aquarium and pond water quality that is so often misunderstood (and thumbed down in YA, even by a few TCs such as PeeTee!!). Simply understanding the basic principles here can ago a long ways in keeping a healthy and relatively disease free aquarium or pond. Aquarium and Pond Redox (ORP, balance, potential)Carl

I agree with you Carl about the YA aspect. I've seen too many cichlid keepers on there not open up to different approaches and tend to stick with more anecdotal types. No fear of calling it out but new people like JW and Mike D, and the most annoying of them all lilriffle really seem to be stuck back in the 50's when it comes to knowing what to do.
To PeeTee's defense, as best I can say, he's very old school on issues Carl. It might be wrong to thumb down something and not take the time to read over the input, but I think it's just a case of age preventing him from being open to newer information out there. One thing I do know about him, he's not on there often really as before and he's a big time advocate of cycling fishless.
I think the redox issue in itself is something that NEEDS to be put out even if it's resisted simply due to the numerous benefits it gives your fish. This also plays a major role in cichlid keeping, especially with Africans where the higher hardness in most all species plays an important factor. Thumbed down or shunned Carl, you cannot give up putting out the facts. Take inspiration from an Inconvienent Truth Carl. Somethings just HAVE to be told regardless of who tries to push it aside.

I guess my experiences with PeeTee have not been all that good. As he stated in an answer about fish food (about me), "that guy does not know what he is talking about, they are all the same". Or in the Redox question (I saved this one): "maybe get a tank guy who will talk straight, and not try to dazzle you with big words, and B.S." I am no spring chicken either and I am trying as well to learn new things or correct my errors as new facts or at least better information comes to light (lighting is a good example here as I have changed my views multiple times based on new information) Carl

Gosh Carl, I didn't know he'd go say that!! If like that, that's going a little too far but I've said things like that to people that gave horrible answers on cichlids too LOL. Don't like the pot calling the kettle black aspect, so I better just spray paint myself now ha ha. Either way though, don't quit putting the info out Carl. Some just will not or cannot open their head to things, but many will.

Some just will not or cannot open their head to things, but many will. Honestly Jon, I do not think you can apply the pot calling the kettle black analogy to yourself as I have seen your answers at YA and you only were blunt when the answers were ridiculous (as in the example I will give below). An example of giving a blunt response would be "Oh, if you want to have a SW aquarium, just add salt to your FW and the fish will convert into a SW aquarium" The above is a ludicrous (or BS answer using PeeTees words) and I can certainly understand a more blunt reply to this kind of statement. Unfortunately I cannot understand his response to well researched and backed answers and in the case of the Redox thread at YA, I tracked hits carefully and he NEVER took the time to check out my references (as I doubt he did in other posts of mine). Honestly he was one of the reasons I stopped wasting my time at YA as frankly the trolls were easier to be "thick skinned" with as they just cowardly went around thumbing, but this guy was a TC that went around spewing opinions and bashing others without even doing any research or checking others facts. Please wash the of the spray paint my friend, you do not deserve it! Carl
