One of my Apple snails laid a clutch of eggs last night, so I took a video of it. Thinking I may video as I go? As in the raising of snails. My first clutch hatched about 14 days after being laid. The female lays her eggs above the water line and as long as they stay moist their fine. I never seen the first clutch laid, so I didn't know that she lays the eggs one at a time. If you watch the video you can see the egg being pushed up and into place. It took her almost two hours to lay this clutch of eggs.

Yeah, he does and they breed like crazy! Ask our good old snail breeder Murdock. He bred them totally by accident and then they infested his tanks.

The snails that John and I seem to have got are pond snails, they do breed like crazy! But this clutch of eggs are Apple snails, they need a male and a female to breed, plus they lay their eggs where you can see them. So if you don't want them to hatch, you just drop in the water and let nature take its course! Nope no baby snails yet...Think they should start hatching right around Christmas.

I wonder if the little baby snails will look like specks of dust moving around the tank. Since I have loaches in both of my tanks I couldn't have snails if I wanted them, even though I could use an extra algae eating creature to pick up the slack until my new clown pleco gets a bit bigger and can keep up. If at all possible I'd love to see pictures of the baby snails. Any plans for them? Is there enough of a market to sell them to a LFS?

The first batch of snails I raised, when they hatched I couldn't even see them with my spy glass! They did kind of look like specks of dust, that move...lol

12-30-08 Took the clutch of eggs out of main tank. Put them in a plastic container with a piece of cuttlebone. The clutch must stay moist but not soaked. This morning when I looked they had started to hatch. So on to baby snails ;D

I do believed that you missed your calling. Think you need to go into the fish business. Anyway, you are going to need a new tank for all the fish that you acquire from cashing in these snails. Good work and Congratulations!

enough on snails OK Renee! please?! I didn't rasie them, they came w/ plants....they were out of control and I had to dump 3 tanks as a result of that and start over - it wasn't a pleasant experience and being reminded of it everytime someone mentions snails hurts! sorry to come across so hard, but Demfish raises apple snails - totally different - lets keep on topic - I still love ya - John
