Hello! For the past few weeks I've been struggling with treating and identifying a disease (or diseases) in my 33 gallon freshwater community tank.
Parameters:
dGH 5
dKH 3
PH 6.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
temperature 75 F
stock:
7 glowlight tetras
6 pygmy corydoras
4 kuhli loaches
6 vietnamese minnows (Tanichthys micagemmae)
The minnows and loaches were added 2 months ago and I must admit I did not quarantine them (lesson learned). So far 4 fish have been affected (one of which unfortunately didn't make it) and all of them display somewhat different symptoms. I have treated the tank with eSHa 2000 (broad spectrum medicine), but that didn't help. I have also never observed any aggressive behaviour. Anyway, here are the symptoms:
minnow #1
It Has a dark grey discolouration on its body right above the anal fin, struggles to swim and is usually tilted with its nose down. It's surprisingly not lethargic. Symptoms first appeared weeks ago and the situation hasn't improved nor gotten worse. Medicine didn't help.
minnow #2
It has light grey patches on its body. It's lethargic but it eats. Symptoms also first appeared weeks ago and the situation hasn't improved nor gotten worse. Medicine and salt bath didn't help.
minnow #3
This one caught my eye a few days ago. It's underweight and appears to be discoloured (darker than the other minnows). It's lethargic and not that interested in food.
the unfortunate corydora
(this happened about a week ago) seemingly overnight a big red sore with fuzzy growth appeared on its body, so I treated the whole tank with medicine. The fuzzy stuff disappeared pretty soon, but the red sore remained. At first it was eating and acting normal, but over the following days it started getting more and more lethargic. On fourth day it started breathing rapidly and desperately swimming upside down, unable to right itself up. It died by the end of the day. Upon closer inspection I noticed there were small red spots all over its body and it also appeared to have a slightly bent spine.
The rest of the fish appear healthy so far. My theory is the minnows were already sick when I got them and the corydora had a weakened immune system for whatever reason (maybe old age), but now I feel like I've hit a dead end. What am I dealing with? What kind of medicine should I get for further treatment? are the other fish also at risk of getting sick? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
