Hey fish keepers!
Looking for some more knowledge into true sterilization for down under AUS.
I have been doing some extensive research into adapting UV sterilization to my current filtration system on my 4ft (318L) 85G tropical South America discus display aquarium.
My recent research into this has led me here to get further information about the TMC Vecton V2. I have read a lot of information about flow rates and turn over rates wattage to GPH ratios! It does make sense and I have put together something from my calculations although I am new to this and before jumping the gun I’d like to confirm with some of you people out there with more experience in this area!
My current filtration setup on my (318L) 85G aquarium consists of;
2x 1100L/ph canisters, both canisters have 2.3L pre boosters fitted for pre me mechanical filtration allows me to fill my canisters completely with biological media witch consists of 4kg dry weighed BioHome Ultimate each or a total of 8kg from both canisters. I have not yet measured head flow rate but I would assume around the 900L/ph mark.
Now with them specifications in mind calculations should be a lot easier for choosing the correct UV Sterilizers.
Having 2 canisters in place means I also have the option of running 2 UV Sterilizers if possible.
I have also read the different levels of sterilization from clarification to level 2 sterilization. I’m not very experienced with this but I would choose level 2 sterilization if where possible for maximum benefit of elimination to as much nasties as possible within my water column.
Now my calculations ended with achievement of level 2 sterilization would be to install the Vecton V2 600 25watt and having my twin filtration system I figured why not install 2 of the Vecton V2 600’s?
Is this an over kill that’s unnecessary and only to cost me more in power bills? Is there a better choose in regards the level of sterilization and choice of Vecton V2 size needed for my system? And will running 2 UV Sterilizers effect the choice of setup in regards to achieving the right level of sterilization?
Please if there is anyone out there, shed some light on this and help me find success in the UV department!!!
Thanks people!!!
Happy days!!!
