Hi Carl, I have two cherry barbs that are sick out of five. Their symptoms are different. The question is should I treat them & with what or is it time to euthanize? 1st one has what looks like a white cap on one eye, his other eye seems to have some interior shine more than cloudiness. been this way for 2-3 weeks. still eating and active did treat with MB/kanaplex/furan 2 baths & merbromin didn't see much difference but didn't get worse either. Has been 1.5 weeks since last bath 2nd one has swollen belly that has progressed to point of scales on the bottom of the stomach protruding-have not treated him as of yet, only noticed him 2 days ago. I will add that a female cherry barb died with a burst stomach about 9 months ago before I could treat her. These barbs are also about 4-5 years old Link to video of fish photos.app.goo.gl/pGGG5pw1iW96TK2i9video of full tankParameters: 29 gal fully planted 2 filters-aqua tech 20-40 and 30-60 2 airstones 75 df PH 7.2 KH 80 GH 300 (150 out of tap + wonder shell) Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 15 Tank mates to consider: 5 cherry barbs 2 siamensis 1 oto 1 Kuhli loach 3 hillstream loaches 3 amano shrimp Thanks for your time and advice (again )

Thanks Carl Should I add a medicated WS to the tank? Will it be safe for my Amano shrimp and Hillies?

Thanks Carl Should I add a medicated WS to the tank? Will it be safe for my Amano shrimp and Hillies? Yes, this might be a good idea. However while the Loaches will be OK, the Shrimp are more questionable with use (I've used with shrimp, with no problem, but one ingredient in particular is hard on shrimp, albeit it is in a low dosage when used as directed) Carl

I am just wondering if I should try 2-3 small medicated WS instead of 1 medium because of the shrimp and water volume in the tank?
This is a 29 gal tank with less than 29g actual water as it is not filled to the top and has a deep bed of Ecocomplete along with rocks and large driftwood.
Thoughts on this?
I am also considering doing a fish-food soak with Metronidazole, kanamycin and furan 2, to treat both barbs in tank as I do not currently have a hospital tank

This would not be enough Medicated Wonder Shell to make much difference. You would need 8-10. For the Medium sized Medicated Wonder Sell, this would not be a strong dose www.americanaquariumproducts.com/MedicatedWonderShell.htmlThis is a a good idea but for the use of Nitrofurazone, this is not an effective internal antibiotic and in fact can be more dangerous used this way from my experiments I would use Metro & Kanamycin or Metro & Neomycin or Neomycin & Kanamycin www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Medication.html#food_deliveryCarl

Thank you. I had started Metro only food soaks 3 days ago, I will add Kanamycin to this today.
And I just put the med size Medicated Wonder Shell in the tank, I will watch the Amanos for any signs of stress.
Thank you for your expertise, I will continue to make my online supply purchases through American Aquarium Prods!

Well, I'm back again. I did the food soaks in tank-with Metronidazole, kanamycin to treat both barbs for 10 days and did a medium medicated WS. They both got better but not completely. The one with the white eye improved and is staying about the same. The one with the swollen stomach looked almost normal but now has swollen up again worse than before. It has been 2 weeks since food soaks were given, I let the Med WS dissolve and replaced w/regular WS a week ago. Current Parameters: 29 gal fully planted 2 filters-aqua tech 20-40 and 30-60 2 airstones 75 df PH 6.5 KH 30 GH 300 (150 out of tap + wonder shell) Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 80- I think this came up due to feedings w/medication, doing water changes and Allgone to bring back down Tank mates to consider: 5 cherry barbs 2 siamensis 1 oto 1 Kuhli loach 3 hillstream loaches 3 amano shrimp - seemed to be fine with the Med WS Here are some current images-Any thoughts on how to proceed? These Barbs are more than 4 years old, they may be 7 or 8 as I have had the tank 4 years and previous owners had it for 4 years before me. So old age may be a factor here too. Thanks in advance!
