Hello all,
Sorry, this is going to be a bit long so I will try to be concise...
I have a betta that I treated for what I thought was columnaris, he got better (I thought) and now is relapsing.
One side of his face has a light grey film area. It's NOT fuzzy and looks more like a hazy greyish/light film than white fuzzy or cottony.
The scales in that area/side of his face are black, not blue, but blue scales have started to come back after first round of treatment.
Not sure if this is related but: The eye on the affected side has been fully covered and the color of his scales since I brought him home, although cleared up some with first-round of treatment for columnaris, I can now see a "pupil" like area in the center of the eye but is still scale colored all around in a circle (not just a top lid like the other side)
Very active & eats well
Tank stats:
5 gal w/ in tank filter w/algone & airstone
NitrAte 10.00
Nitrite 0.00
Hardness 300.00
KH 40.00
PH 7.20
Temp 75.50
Currently increasing salt in tank added a Med. Wonder shell today
Took him out of the tank and dabbed Merbromin on the affected area tonight (he was not cooperative)
Back history...This all started in late Feb.
First treatment round:
Salt-1 full Tbsp & Med. WS in tank lowered temp to 72. 25% Water changes every 2-3 days
Daily baths with salted tank water Methelyne blue/kanaplex/furan 2 mixture for 8 days.
He got noticeably better & feistier but still some lightish area so I stopped the baths with meds (thought he'd been on them long enough) and changed to baths with Potassium permanganate & salted tank water which seemed to get him over the last bit of it with 3 baths the rest of the grey was gone. By now he was fighting bath time with more energy and I thought it may be getting too stressful for him and he obviously felt better.
I kept a Med. WS & salt in his tank for another 2 weeks then started to reduce the salt level, increased temp to 75.5, replaced med. WS with regular WS. It was about a week later that I started to notice the light film returning. I watched it a couple days and it expanded to cover more of his head area So I have increased the salt and put in a Med. WS again as well as trying the merbromin tonight.
Which leads us to-What should I do now?
Here is a video of him today, sorry it's 3 mins long but it shows the affected area a few times throughout the clip. I attached it 2 different ways just in case
Let me know if it doesn't come up.
