I just wanted to do a quick review of my Tunze 3168 internal filter. I'm by no means promoting this product, I'm simply a guy who loves to see different aquarium variations of technology. I'm a gadget geek. That being said....
The Tunze Comline 3168 has an internal pump with an adjustable capacity of 132-581gph. The plastic bell screws together and is inserted into the top of the filter. The wadding you see comes stock and I don't normally use it because it clogs quickly. The bell can be configured with different types of mechanical media. I usually cut up matala mat pond filter media and put them in the bell with a Purigen Bag. There are different types of bells you can buy that hold various types of media. I'd post pics of them but they are all in use in the tanks.
I use the Tunze Comlines as supplements to the canister filters on my tanks. For example on my 65 gallon I run an AAP/Sun Sun HW-404B and a Tunze 3168. What I like about the Tunze internal filter is I can use it to run my chemical media. If a problem occurs with fish health, I can simply pull the filter bell out and insert a spare that does not contain chemical media and then I can treat the tank via medication and or AAP medicated Wonder Shells. Shutting down a canister filter and opening it up to remove chemical media to me is a chore. I'm all about making life easier for me.
Tunze has changed it's Comline filter line. Prior to the 3168 Tunze offered the 3166 and 3167. The 3167 held 2 filter bells. You could also use different types of the E-Jet pumps which simply fitted in the bottom. I would simply buy the filter directly from Tunze USA and then buy the most powerful E-jet I could get to run the filter. The E-jets had a control dial on the power cord that let you adjust the output of the pump. The 3168 does not do that which to me is a drawback. I'm still learning more about this filter and I'll post more later as I muddle through making this my own.
I view the Aquarium Hobby family as just that...a family. We help each other enjoy the hobby to its fullest. Let's keep moving forward. Full disclosure, for ME....Carl, Devon and the Tunze USA rep Roger are the 3 people in this industry who I trust. They've always taken care of me, talked me through issues. I respect that with my heart and my wallet.

P.s. Devon, the Yota was in the hospital for a new Distributor, coil pack, plugs and wires. Please see my GO FUND ME page to help
