HI all, I recently added 1 male Honey Gourami to a well established tank. He seems healthy, has started getting his fin coloring and built a bubble nest. He has, and came with, some brown spots that appear to be under the skin. Any idea what they might be? I find no info any where about these and only one other person has even mentioned it online. This is actually the photo of the one other person I've come across with this issue. This is exactly what the spots on my HG look like. Any thoughts? Happy Holidays everyone!

This looks like a pigment mutation to me.
If you could a close up of your fish, this may help confirm this.
Happy Holidays!

Not saying this is for sure what it is, but fish can get coloration spots like this with a long term low GH. It's a osoregulation thing. www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2006/12/how-do-fish-drink.html

He is not a fan of close ups Here is the best I could get of him. Note that the spots do not appear to be on the skin as much as inside him, and they show up when he has lighting behind him to bring them out. The first photo I posted, while not my actual fish shows the back lit spots pretty accurately. They would seem like some sort of parasite but I can't come up with anyone out there who is familiar with a parasite like this. Also anyone have a good source of Gourami information, I've not kept them before. I was going to get another 1 or 2 but am getting very mixed information about if they will fight or prefer some company? Thank you both! photos.app.goo.gl/dQljtcxSRkVwyxst1

Each time I've kept them, they have bullied each other down to just one in the tank. It's better with larger tanks and more hiding spots.

Just an update...
This Gourami is doing fine, never got sick. The woman at the LFS I got him from said that the brown spots are a parasite that pond raised fish sometimes get. It has something to do with being spread by birds & snails, doesn't hurt the fish and won't do anything unless the fish were to get eaten by a bird? Are you guys familiar with this parasite? I heard of it a long time ago and now can't find any info on it.

My understanding is this is more an infection of fish in more higher latitude fish such as catfish, not tropical fish raised in ponds in tropical or near tropical climates Reference: www.vetbook.org/wiki/fish/index.php/Bolbophorus_confususCarl
