I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 Harlequin Rasbora’s, 3 Otocinclus, 1 male Betta and quite a few Bloody Mary Shrimp. I started with three shrimp, one male and two females. Now I probably have about 50-60 shrimp in various sizes and from different generations. I’ve already given away about 25 to my local fish store, but they keep breeding. So that leads me to my question: are small shrimp like Cherry and Bloody Mary shrimp self-limiting in relation to their surroundings? Will the population stabilize to a semi-fixed amount of shrimp? I’ve researched a bit and get conflicting info.

These Shrimp are not my expertise, but the fact you are getting conflicting information says a lot to me. In other words I would say both thoughts are not necessarily right or wrong.
My thoughts is it likely depends upon water parameters, excess organics, food, etc as well as tank mates (primarily fish)
I have had a lot experience with snails and sometimes found them self limiting and sometimes not, all for the reasons above

That makes sense, Carl. The points you make were in some of the opinions I’ve read. Especially food supply. I do feed then spinach and mini Hikari algae wafers to supplement their grazing. Some peoleb say they don’t supplement to help control population, but I don’t agree with that thought process.
