Some folks recommend fasting goldfish every 5-7 days to help them with their digestion. I used to do this, sometimes more frequently, but this seems to be unhealthy from what I have recently read.
I now feed them three times per day, 1-2 minutes worth of food per feeding.
Your thoughts?
Thank you. Greg

I have run no real science based test to confirm or deny this point. However I have run many in depth controlled tests at a restaurant I once maintained 100 plus aquariums. These fish were fed every day but one day a week we were not there (which varied), and I found not difference.
So I would say that missing a day once and a while will not cause a problem, but it also likely has no benefit either.
As per three times per day, I would agree with this (2 to 3 times per day in small portions is better for goldfish over once per day)

I believe why people do this is to clear the digestive tract. Supposedly it helps with disease prevention. Speaking with our fish food creator, this is not needed with high fiber/ash fish food diets, as the tract is always been cleared. So, if your feeding high fiber I wouldn't. Esp since Goldfish are constant grazers and have no real stomach, so they need more regular smaller feedings. Like Carl said though, it can be done and does happen often I'm sure, it's just not needed.
