I was doing some reading since I posted the last message. The new tank the fish will be moving into is acrylic. I read today to not use sand substrate, and to be very careful about other forms of substrate as well...that while cleaning with a Mag Float the acrylic easily can be damaged.
I just want to make their new home as comfortable as possible! :-)
On another note... I just wanted to mention that my fish seem to be doing better health-wise, now that they are on the Herbivore diet. In fact, it had gotten to the point that my fish who had gone blind appeared to be slowly wasting away, and I wasn't seeing him eat or poop anymore. All that has changed! He immediately searches for the food when it's mealtime and eats it with gusto!

Hi Carl--
Much earlier in this thread you had mentioned cleaning the (plastic Rubbermaid) transport container for the filter with brine or salt water. Does this go for the cooler as well? I ask b/c I believe in another thread I posted, someone had recommended cleaning transport containers with hot water, vinegar, or a 1/20 bleach water solution. Are the brine and salt water included with the others? Also, when you'd mentioned salt, was/is that Cichlid or the "general" aquarium salt?

I would put the salt (regular aquarium salt, aka table salt, aka sodium chloride) about the same as vinegar. Bleach is more effective. Hot water being the least effective. Since it's a new cooler and it's short term, any of these options will work fine. I would worry about to much. More important is to clean something that could have had a bacteria or other illness in it.

I'm sorry... I don't know what measurement to go by for vinegar. Is it 1/20 like the bleach? Thanks for your time.

Vinegar as sold is about 95% water already, so straight vinegar would be OK for cleaning.
