Hello--
I have 2 goldfish; I believe one is a Fancy and the other is a Comet (you may or may not remember them: Dorothy and Crushy). They are both approaching 9 years this Spring/Summer. Each is about 6-7" long from tip of nose to base of tail.
I would like to know if it's possible to go to a smaller tank. I have a tall, narrow 60 gallon (48" x 12"), and am wondering how much I might be able to downsize, (perhaps to 40 gallons-?) with a tank which is wider/deeper with more water surface area. I've read that the more surface area, the better.
Thanks, Nancy

P.S. They are not very active anymore. I think that Crushy is totally blind now (eyes are clouded/crusted over with white substance). Just wondering if Crushy might still benefit somehow with the Fungex product. I did give him and Dorothy a few methylene blue baths back in the summer/fall, but it wasn't easy and seemed to stress them out. I alternate between medicated and non-medicated Wonder Shells. For the last couple of months it seemed like I never saw Crushy trying to eat, and just last night or the day before I saw him sifting through the gravel, and now he's doing it quite a bit. (Unfortunately have not seen him actually pick up any food yet..) They receive your Herbivore formula.)

This can be controversial in many circles, but in my opinion/experience with good bio filtration I do not see a problem here at all Carl

Just to clarify, Carl... Are you saying that you think downsizing would be safe?

Thank you. Your opinion... As long as filtration is good, could it be possible to downsize from a 48" L x 12" W to a 36" L x 15" W aquarium? (anticipating move; simply won't have same amount of space)

(anticipating move; simply won't have same amount of space) Yes. Tank size and fish (especially goldfish) is often controversial and often brings out persons passions, however this is an area I have experimented with and found that good filtration and maintenance procedures is just as important as tank size. Obviously there is a point where the tank could be too small, but from my experience, not in this case Carl
