So I got a 704B about 6-ish months ago and when I turned it on the UV indicator light didn't turn on. I contacted the seller and they sent me a new topend and UV bulb. After using both bulbs on both topends the light still didn't/wont turn on. I'm wondering what could be the problem. Is it possible that the UV light is working but the indicator light isn't coming on? and is there a way to take the top off and check to see? I assume it isn't good to run it without water.
I looked over the UV help article on the site, but I didn't see the ballast or any of the other stuff it mentions. The canister is the same as the sunsun from what I can tell.

You should be able to run it with the top off for a little while. It wont hurt it. Also make sure if there's a compression switch, it's being decompressed. That's usually on the side of the lid on the inside.

Light doesn't work. Oh well. I guess I got a second power head instead. I think they forgot to install the magnetic switch thingy. I assume they got it worked out since they haven't had any complaints.
all in all I got my monies worth, but wish I had the UV.
Thanks for the help.

sorry about that.
if it makes you feel any better... it would be a clarifier, not really add any sterilization value. :/

There is not a single canister filter UV Sterilizer that is anything more than a clarifier at best. If you want a TRUE UV Sterilizer, place a high dwell time UV Sterilizer such as the Vecton in line from the canister filter (in the water return line) Reference (suggested reading): www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.htmlCarl

I ended up mailing it back, and they sent me a new bottom. Apparently the magnet wasn't installed. So now I have two topends that work and one base. So I kind of got a 2 for 1 I guess.
