Hello- I was wondering about the amount of Sanyu Betta Gold to feed my betta Zen. (Who, by the way, is doing amazing after the help of my fellow forum friends.) The label says 3-5 pellets within 2 to 3 feedings. I know overfeeding is a common mistake, but is this really enough for him? I've also read to feed as much as he will eat within a couple minutes, but he devours those 5 pellets within seconds! Who knows HOW many he would eat in a couple minutes!

Betta's will over eat very easily which will lead to constipation and digestive problems, as a result of this your Betas' life will be shortened... In the wild they may go some time without food during the dry season. They eat live bugs and larvae that goes through the digestive system fast. The pellets you feed take more time for this to happen and cause over eating. If your Betta becomes constipated feed it a green pea sliced in half.

I also would like to invite you to start a tank blog on the Tank Blog thread. We would love to see pictures of your pet and tank...

Thanks Richard. So you think the 3-5 pellets a day is enough? They are so very tiny. I do try to fast on Saturdays, and feed some blanched green pea once a week. I want him to live a healthy life, preferably as long as possible! I get so darn attached to silly little animals....

My daughter raises betta's and she feeds them 3 in the morning and then in the evening 2 or 3. She feeds one pellet at a time, but these are her adults and sometimes she skips the evening all together. The babies are feed less. If they are slow to eat the pellets one at a time it is signs of constipation so regular feeding of green pea is important as you are already doing. Richard
