Hi.
Since the piece (actually a few different pieces) of driftwood that Carl had that I was interested in is (are) no longer available, I've been checking around to see what's available elsewhere.
At Petco yesterday I saw an interesting piece (actually 2 pieces glued together, forming a star-like shape) that I liked. The "only" problem (besides that it would probably have to lean against the glass for the way I want to display it) is that I don't know if it would be safe to use. The aquarium section only had a couple fairly "straight" pieces about 12" long and about 3" wide by around 3" high, by ZooMed. This was in the Reptile section and is one of the Mac's Driftwood Collection's grape driftwood pieces, from Mac's LLC in Murphy, Oregon. It doesn't say anything about whether or not it is safe for use in fish aquariums, I tried looking it up on the internet, but could find nothing about the company/product, other than someone asking if it was safe to use with their pleco. I don't know if it has been treated with anything that would make it unsafe for fish--or what king of glue was used to meld the 2 pieces. It looks like it might be similar to what is used for a hot glue gun. I know "grapevine" is usually safe, because I have used it before: the last piece I had was gnawed on to nearly "nothing" by my earlier plecos, and finally broke into 2 pieces. One piece still has an Aubias attached, and the other I finally removed because it is down to a sliver: at its widest point, it is about as big around as my little finger, and about 6" long. I'll have to get a picture of it for you.
I bought it so no one else could snatch it up, but I've kept the receipt, and will do nothing with it until I get your wise advise. If you think I could chance using it, should I take any extra precautions?
Thanks,
Angelminx
