Hello,
I'm interested in purchasing a UV sterilizer and considering the TMC Vecton V2 200, but have an atypical filter/pump set up, and not sure this would be the best solution or how best to install. I'm interest in level 1 sterilization and not just clarification and need some help.
My aquarium is a Marineland Eclipse 3, 29G tall with an integrated filter. Although the unit is a bit dated, it works wonderfully and I prefer not to replace. If you are familiar with this unit, there are no hoses on the integrated filter to hook-up an in-line sterilizer. I only use this filter for debris filtering and water polishing (carbon), however, and have removed the biowheel and replaced with additional fiber for debris filtering. For bio filtration I have installed a Denitrator/Nitrate filter by Aquaripure, which is set up much like a typical canister filter. I could hook-up the UV sterilizer between this Nitrate filter and the aquarium, but the output for this Nitrate filter runs at a VERY slow flow rate to be effective - only 1 or 2 drops second, which is equivalent to .05 or .10 GPH. I believe longer dwell times are better for UV sterilizers, but would this be TOO slow - i.e. is there fear of overheating, etc?
Am I better off installing a dedicated pump for the UV sterilizer, or are there other options? I could install the unit in front of the nitrate filter, the pump into the unit runs at 295 GPH, so may need to upgrade to the Vectron 4 to ensure level 1 sterilzation. The downside is the water going into the sterilizer would then be unfiltered.
The tank is a heavily planted community tank. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
