All along I've been wanting to get some more Rummynose Tetras--the last ones I had died about 10 years ago. I used to have a school of 12, but they slowly died off, and no one has carried them (the LFS where I got them is no longer around). Petco has been on the look out for them for me, and they have ordered them a couple times, but the fish were "zeroed out" when the shipments came. Finally (end of April) they were back on the vendor lists, so we tried again.
The 1st shipment only had 6, so I took them home with me. One was dead when I got home. After acclimation they all seemed to be doing good, but late that night, I found another dead one, and one was MIA. The next morning I found another dead (plus one dead in the "bushes"), leaving 3. The next day there were no loses, but the following 2 days, I lost one a day. That left me with just one. I called "her" "Little Girl", and she was colored up nicely. She has been doing fantastically, but I didn't want her to be alone, so I had them order some more. When they came in there were 12 of them, but someone else had also asked for some the day before, so I took 6 of them home. They never made it home., so I called to have them order some more and the associate said that the person who wanted them had changed their minds. I told them I'd be in for them the next day, but they called me the next morning and told me that they, too had died. So we tried again. They called to let me know they had come in, and we decided to have them put them under observation for 24 hours. The next day they all seemed to be doing okay, so I came and picked them up. Again, one never made it home, which left me with 5, plus Little Girl (who was slightly bigger than the others). The next morning 3 were dead, leaving me with a total of 3.
I asked them to try once more, and when I came in on June 5th (20% off sale), the rummynoses had been zeroed out again, so I decided to look and see what had come in. There were no Bettas (to replace Valentine) that particularly caught my eye, and they had received some upsidedown catfish, do I decided to get them. I also found the baby banjos and the snowball plecos. With all the returns I had made, plus the 20% off, plus the fact that I also had a 10% off coupon, I only ended up paying for the snowball pleco (at a drastic price reduction )!
since I only have the 3 rummynoses--all 3 of which are doing great, and a colored up well--I would eventually like to get some more. But, unless they look to be in real good condition (if I even find them), I won't be getting any more for quite a while .
