I don't really have this tank yet, but I am planning to transition over to a (mostly) catfish community with my 55G "South American" Community.
Since my last Betta died, other than some rummynose tetras that I am trying to form a school of (the 3 I have are in the 10G quarantine tank to "grow out" as they are too small to go in with the angels), I am going to house catfish in the 10G tank. At this moment I have 4 "baby" Banjo Cats. my Snowball Pleco, and 4 Upsidedown Cats. I'm trying to get a total of 6 USDCs, then will ad more after the conversion of the 55G. I currently have 2 "adult" Banjos in the 55G (not the parents of the babies), one albino bristlenose pleco, 4 of what I believe are Corydoras ambiacus (the different photos/descriptions in my fish books don't all match up--some ID them as C. agassizii), and 6 C. paleatus. I originally had more ambiacus, but lost a couple when the pre-filter got knocked loose and they got themselves wedged into the tube going to the Rio and died. As to the C. paleatus, I wasn't planning on getting any of that species, but it took forever to get my other cories, and when I was in Petco a while back someone had turned in an adult (~3") paleatus, and they were selling her for $1. So I got the 5 small ones for her for company in her own species.
Eventually I would like to get a school of Debauwi Cats (they're available right now, but I definitely don't have room for any more fish ) and maybe a Spotted Raphael (Agamyxis pectinifrons) or some Moth Catfish (sometimes called Stone Catfish) Hara hara/Erethistes montana. The ID problem comes into play here, again, as the vendor that provides them lists these Asian catfish only as Stone Catfish, and there are a few species that "go" by that name. Most often tho, these are going to be Hara jerdoni AKA Anchor Catfish, which are quite a bit smaller and look a lot like a kind of Banjo Catfish. The ones I want are the "Moths". As for the Spotted Raphael, I've never seen one in person (least of all an adult) so I don't know how big their mouths actually are/get, so I don't know if I should consider this species or not.
Any thoughts or opinions? [I'm guessing that by the time this actually takes place (because of age) I may still have the SAEs and/or Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish; don't really know which of the original inhabitants will be left. I'd rather start a new tank for the cats, but another tank is not allowed.]
