I was going to post some pics in different areas of the site, on things that have been happening since earlier in May, but I can't get the forum to post them ("this forum has exceeded its attachments limit").
During this time Valentine (my elephant ear Betta) died. Petco had another 20% off sale at the beginning of June. I thought maybe I'd try to special order a "colony" of Betta imbellis (AKA Peaceful Bettas), but no one around here could get them (are they possibly "seasonal" like some other fish?), so I decided to work on some catfish, to eventually switch over to a "catfish community" in the 55G, and use them to keep my cycle up and running in the quarantine tank. I have 3 rummynoses in there growing out (a "long" story), along with my Nerites and chocolate rabbit snails (I have a new baby in the mix)--who keep munching on my Java ferns, and one lone ghost shrimp. I just added some Upsidedown Cats and 4 Banjos, as well as a "Snowball Pleco". The banjos are just "babys". I took a couple of pics of them with one of my adults for comparison (wish I could post them). As to the USDCs, I'd purchased 4 (that's all they had), but one of them was dead the next day, so I ordered more. They got 6 in, but one was dead, and when I went to get my replacements the next day (I would like to start out with 6 total), 2 more had died. I went ahead and got the 3 that were left. The next day (last Thursday) 2 were dead. As of this moment I have 4, one of which ("Lefty", from the 1st batch) has a missing pectoral fin, but is doing great despite it. The snowball pleco I was going to see if anyone could help me identify (since there are so many that sell under that common name), but, again, I can't post the pics. I've tried to email the supplier (APet) to see if they have any idea of the species (their order list only lists them as Snowball Plecos), but haven't heard anything back from them. I've been trying to use it's mouth/dentition to see if I could identify it that way, but there are not very many of this kind of photo (or illustration) on the web, most don't identify the species shown and/or are the wrong angle/out of focus. I can't even find any scientific papers that talk about this--at least without knowing/entering specific journals. There was one "slight possibility" that came up, but you had to enter your institution's name, password, etc., to log in to view it . BTW, "Snowball' (?temporary name) was a $20 fish, but with the 20% discount, and the return of some dead rummynoses from an early May purchase) I paid $5 and some change for him !
If I get the opportunity, I will post my photos (probably in the different threads, but I'll try to remember to post some here, too).
