I watched a video of a guy trimming the wen from a huge lionhead goldfish because it had grown over it's eyes and the fish couldn't see. There was no audio in the video, so while watching, I had no idea that the fish was anesthetized by putting it in water with clove oil. Then I read that the wen is similar to our hair and finger nails, but every time the guy clipped the wen, the anesthetized fish jumped. After he was done, he made sure the fish's eyes were clear and put him in a different holding tank with just water. It looked like the fish was dead, but he kept moving it back and forth in the water, then gently opened it's gills and moved it around some more. By the end of the video, the fish seemed perfect; lively and swimming about like any other fish. I understand that this had to be done or else the blind fish most likely would have slowly starved to death. I guess my question is, can the goldfish feel the wen trimming or is it really like us cutting our nails or hair?

I personally do not know the answer, my guess would be as you assumed.
As for blind fish and starving, I have had quite a few fish go blind for many reasons over the years and as long as they were allowed to compete for food, they usually found the food.
BTW; can you share this video here? I bet others who read this forum would enjoy viewing (we have a lot more readers than active members)

I've had fish go blind in one eye and be fine, but I've never had a fish go blind in both eyes, so I wouldn't really know how they would do. Whenever I see a fish for sale with only one eye, I usually buy it, as long as it seems healthy otherwise. I buy them because I know a fish with only one eye will do fine and I feel bad, like no one else will buy them. I'm more of a cat person than a dog person, but if someone ever asked me if I could take in a three legged dog, I most likely would, even if it was just to foster it until I could find it a good forever home. I enjoy the oddities in life.

I'm an oddity myself, so it seems like the right thing to do!

We're all oddities, some just embrace it more than others Interesting. You would have to be confident in what your doing... I would be a little nervous.
