Thanks for all the information you have on UV Sterilizers. I sent some links to my son to check out. I won't even think about ordering one until he has time to come and install it for me.

I have a question about the quartz sleeves for the Vecton UVs. I was just watching the video on changing the bulb (I hope to get it done this next week), and it showed how to change the quartz sleeve...and that reminded me that I read something about them somewhere (but can't remember just where); so...I was wondering how often the sleeve should be replaced on the Vectons (I have the 8 watt), and also how often should the O-rings last?
Thanks

If kept lubricated (with petroleum jelly) the O rings can last for years (I have had them last over 5 years, but 3-5 years is more common). The only time a quartz sleeve needs to be changed is when it is broken or occasionally when it gets so encrusted with calcium build up, the UVC cannot penetrate. This said, this never happens in a properly cared for aquarium UV application, only in pond applications. Please Read the UV Sterilization article, maintenance section: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.html#uvmaintenanceCarl
