I have updated the Aquarium Medications Part 4 article (dealing with organic/herbal treatments) I added a section about the potential use of Oregon Grape Root for aquarium/pond fish treatment, including columnaris treatment. Here is a quote: "Oregon Grape Root is one of those "wonder herbs" with actual science to back it up, unlike many "natural treatments". What is not proven is its effectiveness in aquarium or pond fish use, but based on the science around how this herb works, likely this will become an effective addition to many other proven aquarium treatments.
Oregon Grape Root has potential to aid in antibiotic effectiveness in treatment of difficult to treat diseases such as Columnaris as it contains a specific multi drug resistance pump inhibitor (MDR Inhibitor)."Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumMedication4.htmlCarl

This is exciting work Carl. Being a leader in organic treatments for aquarium use. Very nice. Lets see if it happens again, where you publish your work and everyone is using Oregon Grape root for their aquariums. Happened time and time again before, so I wouldn't be surprised.
It's interesting that herbs can be so effective, but there is little research of how they can be applied. Consider our medicines came from herbs, you would think we would know more. (I can say this cause my wife works with herbal meds.)

I made another major update to the Organic Medications article, this time the addition of therapeutic oils as found in Kordon Fish Therapy Bath treatment. Here is a quote from this section: "Where does this leave us with this product (Kordon Fish Therapy Bath in particular)? Why I am personally just beginning tests with this product, with cautious use it should be a reasonable alternative for Methylene Blue Fish baths, but should not be combined with any other medications unlike Methylene Blue. I see its primary use for parasite prevention or treatment, not bacterial infection prevention or treatment. Saprolegnia treatment/prevention may also be a viable use.
I would not substitute Kordon Fish Therapy Bath for Methylene Blue for fish suffering from ammonia poisoning, low oxygen damage, pH shock, or other bath medications such as Potassium Permanganate or combinations of Methylene Blue with Furan 2/Kanaplex or Maracyn Plus for more serious problems."Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumMedication4.html#therapeutic-oilsProduct Resource: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Quickcure.html#therapyCarl

Thanks for testing Kordon Therapy. I was so busy with the holidays that I only did one bath treatment....which isn't enough to give a fair assessment. I am just fortunate I got my water changes done. The fish that were given a bath with the Fish Prep (new purchases) have been fine - no issues. I will be buying two more Kamaka rainbows soon (too cold to go fishing now). the store is holding them for me. One of the fish that was dipped in the Therapy died, but I don't blame the product. It was a fish that had various issues from the start. He made it through the worm treatment, but took a turn for the worse. I am just happy I had him as long as I did.
