Greetings All,
A while back, I bought some Bettafix - just to bring my order up to $49.00 so I could get free shipping (the Bettafix was less than shipping charges). I don't intend to buy Bettafix again. I would rather make my own using Melafix - at least, I assume the ingredients are the same. The Bettafix is just "watered down" (based on dosing instructions). Melafix is 5 ml per ten gallons.... Bettafix is about 2.5 ml per gallon (5 ml per 2 gallons).... so one pays quite a bit for the added water. The bottle is only 50 ml.
Has anyone experimented making your own Bettafix? How much conditioned water did you add? 1 part Melafix/5 parts conditioned water? It is certainly a LOT cheaper to buy Melafix (smile).
My silly boy tears up his tail from time to time - he is very rambunctious... A few treatments of Melafix and he is better than new (His tail was torn when I bought him... He picked me).
I haven't tried to figure out Artemiss...dosing of that is 2 ml for 10 gallons (I suppose a bit less than 1/2 ml - 2/5 ml - would be dose for 2 gallon). My Betta tanks is 2 gallons - supposedly - but really only looks like a little more than 1 gallon of actual water for him (and his two young cory cat buddies) to swim in. It is a Fluval tank.
No rush for an answer... I have plenty of Bettafix left.
Cheers,
Judy D.

I simply diluted to easily measurable amounts. I think your method seems like a good idea My thoughts are what ever works best for the user is the way to go I would also agree as to purchasing Bettafix versus Meleafix, I have NEVER purchased or sold Bettafix, rather used and recommended Melafix. This is also why Bettafix is not available at AAP since I try and sell what I would use myself. This policy has not pleased some of manufacturers I have sold products overt the years for, as they have insisted in me selling more of their line rather than "cherry picking" what I liked (this even resulted in legal actions against me when I refused with one company). Thanks Carl,
I will mix up my own "Bettafix" when the bottle is empty. I always have plenty of Melafix on hand. I bought the Bettafix with the intention of making my own when the bottle is empty. I have a little bottle of betta water conditioner, too....and will refill that with other product when it is empty. The betta tank isn't in the same room as the other aquariums - so it is handy to have products with the tank (the little bottles hide behind it).
