Does anyone know if it is safe to combine Excel and Potassium Permagnate into one dip? If you're getting SAE, will you need to do plant dips? I just got these guys and between them and the Rainbow sharks. Correcting the light/Co2, I didn't need to dip. Let us know if it works good though.

I wasn't sure about dipping them in case of some pathogen or other.

Why not just use diluted bleach? It's effective for snails, algae, AND pathogens and is easily neutralized post-dip with a little Prime.

From the Planted Aquarium Care article (Plant dip section): " Bleach used in a 20 parts water to 1 part bleach for 2-3 minutes for delicate plants and 4-5 minutes for broad leaf plants. Follow this with a quick dip in sodium thiosulfate, or another de-chlorinator/water mixture."Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumPlants.html#otherCarl

Thanks, I'll use the bleach when I get my next plants.
BTW, I couldn't find the Weco dechlorinator anywhere, although I do remember seeing it, once upon a time. I do have some API Tap Water Conditioner that I just picked up for basic use such as this; after Potassium Permangaate; and using during the regeneration process of Purigen.

The API Tap Water Conditioner should work perfectly well for this Carl

You're welcome!
BTW, should Purigen be used constantly, or is it just best to use it for "detoxifying"?

I need to bleach my Purigen, thanks for reminding me! It depends upon the aquarium, generally I do not use it constantly, but in high bio load aquariums I will always have fresh Purigen running Carl
