My cories--that I have been waiting nearly 4 months for--finally came in and I picked them up Wednesday afternoon.
They went thru an approximately 8-hr acclimation period using the drip system, with Methylene Blue added (after I tested for water parameters, which included a pH of 8.3 and a KH of 13 degrees--my quarantine water is running at a pH of 7.6 and a KH of 5 degrees right now). I also got some Black Neons, so they were acclimated at the same time. During this proccess I removed about 2 1/2 gallons from the 10G quarantine tank, so after I was finished, and released the new kids into their temporary home, I topped off with water treated with Amquel+/NovAqua+ and SeaChem's Alkaline Buffer. Thursday morning I added 1/2 capful of Stability, and in the afternoon I removed the insert from the Whisper 10i filter. I will set up a new insert, to be used between treatments, as soon as it's needed.
I know Cories and Plecos have a tendancy to be infested with worms and/or gill flukes, so I want to treat them just in case. So that afternoon, I also dissolved 1 Jungle Parasite Guard tablet in some tank water, then dumped it in. The package says to use every 48 hours for 4 days. What I was wondering was: when that treatment is up, do I continue treating for a total of 10 days, or should I start a treatment regimen with something else? I have Metro+ (couldn't get SeaChem's Metronidazole when I bought it), ParaGuard, a 1 oz bottle of PraziPro, Potassium Permaganate and Malachite Green (I also have herbal Ich Attack, Neoplex, Usnea and Garilc Guard--as well as antibiotics), all with at least a year before the expiration date. I always quarantine new fish for 30 days, unless that time needs to be extended (or, rarely, shortened).
The (8) cories are "Corydoras ?"; sold to me as "Spotted Cories". I have a few books with info on cories that I checked in--one is specifically about Corydoras and was released in 1993 (? in both English and German). In it, some of the species are only illustrated by sketches, but most have photos, including the "C-numbers" thru C16. These cories look mostly like the photos (in the different books) of Corydors ambiacus, and that species description fits them best, but in some of the photos they look like C. agassizii, while in others they look "nothing like" agassizii. Another cory that they are similar to is C. lamberti, but I only have one picture of that species--so no variations to compare it to--but in it the spots are bigger (the decription calls them "blotches", but they look like spots to me). I wish I had a more up-to-date edition. Petco was also supposed to get some C. metae, and I was going to choose between the two, but they never came in, and I didn't want to wait any longer.
Back to treatment, what is your suggestion? Angelminx
P.S. I don't know how the font got changed to italics partway thru, but if I did, I would have italisized the species names like you're supposed to, and switched the rest back to "normal".
