I have updated the Loaches/Botias Fish Profiles article. Here is an excerpt from the article: "Water Parameters: In their natural habitat these fish are typically found in waters with the following conditions: temperature 75F-86F (23.89C-30C), pH 5.0-8.0, Gh 90-300ppm. While some aquarists and publications suggest that softer water is best (under 12 dGH or 215 ppm), I have seen clowns thrive in harder water and in fact quite emphatically disagree with these recommendations based on experiments in keeping Clown Loaches and interviews with clients who have had issues keeping Clown Loaches.
Consideration of additional mineral Cations (positive ions) whether by dissolving mineral blocks (usually at 1/4- 1/2) or mineral Cation drips should also be considered for long term health. Clown loaches can become stressed by rapidly fluctuating water parameters and will be healthier if they are kept in a stable and well-established tank."Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/LoachesBotias.htmlCarl
