Is there a difference between a RCS and a CRS then?
You said the Endler's never bothered the RCS until you added the CRS. Are those 2 different things? That's what is confusing to me.

oh...I think it was the red/white color that attracted them. Even the fry are red/white and not "clear" like RCS fry are.

Ah, so CRS is a different type of shrimp?
So let me ask you this - it seems your RCS were fine up to the point where you added the CRS. Since I have no CRS, do you think I will be ok? I've seen 3 RCS yet this morning (was gone on business for a couple of days).

They are different. CRS are Crystal Red Shrimp and RCS are Red Cherry Shrimp. I know I read about them in Tropical Fish Hobbyist not long ago, but I don't remember what makes CRS different.
I've got RCS in a 10 gallon. I think I got them from Suzie Q a couple of years ago. I started off with 9 or 10 and now have a pretty steady 30-40. Mine are with a few small fish. 2 white clouds, a harlequin rasbora and a honey gourami. The only fish that ever really bothers the shrimp is the gourami and I've never seen her try to eat them. It looks more like she tries to steal the food flake they are munching on. But like you observed with your killie, the shrimp are really too fast to be in great danger. Plus having plants in there will go a long way to preserving offspring, which are probably on their way if you've got males and females. The babies are so cute and tiny!

How often do they have babies? One of the larger females was carrying eggs shortly after we got her. I spotted her yesterday and she has the characteristic "saddle" which I think means she's dropped her egss (did they hatch or were they unfertilized?) and has started making new ones.
I saw 4 of them yesterday, they were acting very bold for some reason. Usually they're in deep cover. They REALLY like hiding in the Java ferns rather than the moss, I supposed because there's more young algae on the fern leaves.
They share a 14G tank with 3 white clouds, 5 small glofish danios, the 3 killifish, 2 kuhli loaches, and the YoYo. I've watched them get very close to the YoYo - he could care less about them.

I'm so late in my reply...
CRS are red and white striped. according to the grade, they could be most red (low) or almost all white with a red spot just behind the head (High). These are a lot more sensitive to water conditions. I have had RCS for about 8 yrs now and have just now gotten CRS. They are pretty expensive...like $20 a piece for the low grade ones.
Both species carry the same amount of time which is...ummmm 21 to 27 days? I'll have to look it up. I don't remember. Young females sometimes drop their eggs the first time. Older females will if they are really stressed (eat the eggs..not me). If she carried at all, they were fertile. The eggs will not live with out the mother fanning them on her swimmers.
Now that mine are in a tank by themselves, I see new hatched RCS fry foraging around the 10g.

So if I noticed her fanning them, there's probably a few dozen tiny shrimp hiding in tank?
As for the adults, I spotted 4 of them when I fed frozen food earlier today. They're still alive and strong.

IF you didn't find a clutch of eggs laying in the plants somewhere, then you might have TINY shrimp fry hiding in the moss!!! Lori

I haven't seen any eggs but the plant cover is beyond THICK. I don't think I'd ever see eggs OR fry until they get bigger.
Right now, I'm watching the 2 I've identified as females to see if they take on new eggs. I'm concerned that I only have 1 male and I haven't seen him recently.

As of today's water change, I can verify that at least 5 of the 6 are still alive and quite healthy.

They're getting pretty bold now. I'm almost guaranteed to see at least 2 any time I stop and casually look. And they do make a dent in the algae - I just need about 20 of them!

I'm getting concerned that I don't have any males. Today, I was able to catch a glimpse of at least 3 shrimp and all 3 have the characteristic "saddles"...

I personally cannot tell (maybe Lori can) This Shrimp simply looks "different" to me, which maybe he/she is a hybrid? BTW, the pics are great, in particular the first with the two shrimp. Carl
