I have sword plants in all 5 of my tanks. All are doing well except for one tank- the leaves on both swords in this tank are thinning at the very base of the stems where the plant is in the gravel. They are planted correctly (with ALL the leave out of water), have good lighting/co2. I fertilize with seachem products (have pretty much all of them). I have been looking online for what might be causing this and I can't figure it out. Any ideas? Oh, the swords that are in their are ozelot and kleiner bar. Both had been doing well for months til now.... Thanks!

I use a mixture of Eco Complete and Seachem Flourite.
I'm currently not using any fertilizers or supplements and I'm not doing any CO2 injection. My swords are doing fine.
Given that you're doing so much more for yours, I have a hard time thinking they have a deficiency.
The only thing I can think of is that you have regular gravel and are using liquid fertilizers, which means that their not getting enough nutrients to the roots. That's only an assumption though based on the information you have given. Have you tried root tabs?
The only other thing is to make sure the rosette (the very top of where the roots meet the base/stems) is not buried.

One aspect of aquarium keeping I have found over the years, especially when problems arise after months of success is water parameters or similar (this goes for diseases as well).
Could you post your water parameters from ammonia to GH.
As well what is your lighting, I know I moved some healthy swords from a tank with 6400K T2s to one with CFLs and they slowly went down hill even though the CFLs were also a similar 6500K; these lights simply did not have the energy output.

If the tank with the struggling swords is a fairly new tank, it may be that the gravel doesn't have any nutrients in it whatsoever. An established tank, even with regular gravel, will still have something for the plants to feed on, such as fish poo and whatnot.
Have you tried the Flourish Tabs? I use them in my tanks with regular gravel and I think they help quite a bit. You just bury them in the gravel near the plants, and add a new one every few months or so. Which reminds me...I think it's time to put some new ones in my tanks!

Ammonia: 0 Nitrate: 10 Nitrite: 0 Total Hardness: 400 ppm Total Alkilinity: 80 ppm pH: 6.8 Temp: 78 CO2: think it's about 20 ppm Tank has been up and running for over a year. I do use flourish tabs. Have 2 swords in the tank that are fine, don't know what kind they are (they are smaller and have waffle like leaves). Just the kleiner and olezot have problems. Just today noticed that my ozelot in my 55 gal is having the same problem- parameters are the same as the other tank, and it's been up for about 10 years. That tank has about 15 swords, and all the rest are ok...just have a problem with these few species..... Lighting: 20 gallon has 2 T-2 in it, are on about 11 hours a day 55 gallon has 2 T-2's (11 watt 6400) and 2 aqua ray led's 500's (got them all from your store!)

Hmm, that is very odd, particularly since you have others in the tank that are fine. Not sure what they could be deficient in if other swords are doing well.
Do the leaves turn a different color or anything before they thin out and die off?
