yellow lab holding and fry growth

it's an old topic for me, as i don't keep africans anymore, but for sure interesting for other african keepers, especially newbies ;D

so i will basically present you guys with my journal on it, my worries and also my excitement

she's kinda whitish/yellowish around her belly and beneather her mouth
she has a little tiny pouch beneath her mouth and she doesn't open her mouth all the way like the others do
she definately doesn't eat

my temperature is around 80-82 degrees currently, was 1 week ago 76 degrees and i was kinda shocked about it, so i turned it up

So my guess is that the temperature change actually got them all worked up for spawning

i see several different behaviours in all my cichlids actually which is very interesting to watch

And no, i won't strip any of my cichlids, first of all i don't know how to do it, and second of all i think i wouldn't be able to do it anyway, because of beeing worried on hurting her or destroying the eggs in the process

my female is now holding since 18 days, that's when i noticed it

it's amazing, now i can clearly see the eggs where you can already see the fry shape in it with the eyes showing, it's really great to watch her

I just feel sorry for her because she seems that she got a lot thinner, but she's doing great for her first time IMO

my tank is around 78-82 degrees at all times, maybe that's another reason mine like to spawn, i don't know, i'm very surprised about it anyhow, because my pH is only about 7.8 as well, i'm just very happy about it

however my temperature was at 76 i turned it up a notch and one week later i noticed her holding
i think a temperature change makes a big difference

I counted 7 so far, haven't moved the ship yet though where most of them are hiding out in

yes, she's already eating since 2 days after she spit the fry
if she hadn't been eating at all i wouldn't have put her back with the community

well, i finally brought my 9 fry to the LFS today
at 4 1/2 months of age, they where already about 2 inch in length
i had 2 males and 7 females in that batch

i'm so sad

but i got $1.50 for each of them

Great blog on your yellow labs! Your little fishies got bigger and bigger and your photos got better and better toward the end too. How did the auratus do? Did you get any fry from her?

That is actually a pretty good price for 2" labs. You should be proud of yourself. Making a hobby help pay for itself is a great accomplishment.

A blog on spawning is a great idea. Maybe we can get others to share their experiences too. I would love to hear about and see pics from others too.

i have another thread i want to put in here, just need to figure out, how i get my pics to work again, obviously i messed them up some where

i still have the fry, will be bringing them to my LFS today actually, as i want to move my krib pair into the 29 tank
but will take pics of them

That's a very helpful post Eve and puts into pictures what is often times said in words. I would hope to encourage anyone that has a thread like documentation of fry from, birthing/hatching/brooding to juvenile, to sub adult etc.. to post as well and maybe we can start compiling a specific folder for certain species as time progresses.
