I am not sure there is a clear consensus here, I lean toward the later, but that is simply an opinion. Can you tell if he is a bicuspid (having two points or cusps in the mouth) or a single cusp? I see too many different aspects in the shots up to put anything definitive on it at this point. The only way to give any input worthwhile and accurate is just waiting longer. Sorry that may not be what you want to hear, but from my end, I don't like to say this is what it is unless I have no doubts. It's too early for me to make a judgement like that. You may find some other keepers locally maybe that have more experience at this then me that can help you.

this is coming from someone who doesn't know jack about cichlids or latin names - just an opinion - if its 5" long and kenyi related, it's most likely a female, the males remaining yellow if I'm not mistaken.....

hey guys. i added a new beast in with the other 3 i have too much blue. but im crossing my fingers that hes big enough that he will just take all the agression passively and become the target fish.
anyways i have no idea what he is or the last one i entered is they will both be posted up here soon so i can gather you guys idea's on what they may be.

well sadly, there is no need for an id anymore. i lost the 2nd newest fish due to dominance shift. i now am housing 2 african cichlids 1 electric blue johani dominant. and 1 sub dominant powder blue, i lost the mystery fish when my powder blue decided to take over dominance from the larger johani and the johani sat back and watched the powder blue kill the mystery guy.
so im now considering just ending my experiments with the africans. and start a native species tank and pick up some sunfish and smallmouth bass from local fishing holes. and give them a life for a year and let them go. i think it may be fun.
if you guys want me to post pictures of the johani or the powder blue let me know. there both very healthy and arent very shy at all. i think they might be happier as a pair then they were in larger groups. alot more social anyway.

sure. i just noticed looking through your articles and members pictures youve taken some of my socolofi. i think in the columnaris thread. i dont mind i thaught it was a grand idea. so thats what i was meaning. feel free to snag any of them if you feel they will do other aquarists good. in other aspects such as tank care and disease treatments. please do that and when i go back through the articles ill recolect first hand what i actually went through with that fish to try to save him.

OK Sorry if there was a misunderstanding, we often use forum posts and pics for both our Everything Aquatic Blog posts and for fish ID & disease ID as per our forum rules page I was not sure, so I hope you did not mind, but I added a new profile pic to your profile avatar. well thank you carl! its actually one of my favorites. i miss that combo. it had minimal aggression compared to what ive been dealing with the last few months.
was just a albino zebra, yellowtail acie, and my yellow lab. was pretty sweet would be pretty spectacular in a 55 with each having a female counter part.

It's not a Lombardoi (Kenyi) that much is sure, the color and stripe patterns aren't even close to a match for that. Demasoni possibly but I doubt that. It resembles it but it actually looks closer to a Johanni then anything else I can think and I'd bet the ranch this guy is not pure strain. There is clearly some mixing in the mouth aspect. It's got some Labeotroph in it.
