Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I didn't think this required its own thread.
I have a Finnex 150W titanium heater in the 14G guppy tank and all of the sudden today, it started emitting a long, continuous beep.
I immediately unplugged it and put my fingers in the water - it was BODY TEMPERATURE. I dropped in a thermometer and it read 91!
I added some ice and Prime and removed the heater. Not sure what to do next as this was an uber-reliable heater in the past and one of the few that has a built-in thermometer - I'm a big fan and multi-purpose devices.

I should also note that after being unplugged for a few minutes, the heater appears to be functioning correctly again. We did have a 2-second power outage this morning. Right now I have it unplugged but I'm not 100% sure it's faulty.

Right now I have it unplugged but I'm not 100% sure it's faulty. I have not personally had any of the many heaters malfunction from a power outage, but I have had others tell that they have (or a power surge) My understanding, although I am not 100% positive, is that the Finnex are made by the same company that makes the AquaTop Digital Heaters; which we and others I know returned and ceased selling after a higher than normal failure rate. BTW, are your fish recovering? Carl

Yeah, remarkably they showed no signs of stress at all. Guppies are pretty resilient.

I got a response from Finnex. It sounds to them like the temperature sensor is faulty. They actually said that they recommend the temperature sensor be replaced EVERY YEAR. When you consider the fact that they only offer a 180-day warranty and the temperature sensor is not a user-replacable part, they've essentially told me that I should replace a $40 tank heater every 12 months. No thanks.

Carl, do you sell anything small and compact for a 14G aquarium? I have a titanium heater for my 55G and I like it but it's pretty large.

I'm really partial to something with an external thermostat.

For now, I'm using the 50W heater that came with the kit. I'll let you know.
