The silent cycling tank. I added the substrate, water, water conditioner and plants a couple of days ago. The inside the aquarium ammonia alert device had the ammonia at .05 ppm. I put the device in a glass of water. The water department sure has the chloramines up to max. By evening the plants took care of ammonia. Pondering on why the writer has a person waiting for 2 weeks before adding otos. What is the reasoning? Science? On the other hand, there are no fish disturbing the plants and giving the plants a chance to get establish. Where I bought too many plants I stuck some in my other two tanks.
Hospital/quarantine tank. Angelfish are snacking on the new plants. The last day of their medicine treatment. The biological filter is wiped out. I knew it probably would happen. The ammonia device shows the ammonia is building up. I put water conditioner to take care of the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. I will put one of the filters cartridges from the 56 gal tank into filter to get the bio started again after a 25% water change. One part of me wants to change the water now and put the filter in.. Another part of me is saying don't end the treatment too soon and they made it this far.
56 gal. I felt the amazon sword plant was too big for the 29 gal tank so I stuck it in the 56 gal tank along with some other small plants. There were some plants in the tank all ready that had some brownish algae on them. I don't know whether the new pleco cleaned off the leaves. There is no leaf damage if the pleco tidy up the plant leaves or the new plants that I added the other day are competing for nutrients had something to do with it.

Did you use aged/seasoned substrate to start this new aquarium? As well did you treat for the chloramines with conditioners such as Prime or Amquel Plus? I recommend keeping extra Sponge Filters to add to any quarantine/hospital tank when treating with medications such as Erythromycin that often kill nitrifying bacteria. See this article: Aquarium Disease Prevention; Quarantine/Hospital TanksI hope these comments are not taken as critical, just some thoughts that came to my head as I read your blog. Good luck with your tanks Carl

Carl, your comments were great.
I haven't put seasoned substrate in the new aquarium yet. I used Amquel Plus for the new aquarium. The sponge filters I purchased from you are working great so I am getting some more. The wonder shells and flourish excel has caught my eye too.
My thinking now is.. since the 10 gal hospital bio filter is wiped out.. It will be easier to put the 6 angels in the 29 gal tank, seasoned substrate, and seasoned filter. Plenty of plants for the ammonia and nitrites.

I put the seasoned gravel and seasoned filter into 29 gal tank a couple of days ago. The ammonia is staying down. This morning water testing was surprised to see nitrites all ready. It's extremely low, but there. Moved the angels over to this tank. They are happy campers snacking on the plants and zipping around the aquarium.
56 gal. Decided the pleco doesn't do windows. The pleco has been cleaning off the live plants gently.

Is there algae growing on the glass but the pleco won't eat it? He might just be munching on the plants because there isn't much algae, or maybe they're just tasty. At least you won't have to worry about the plants dying from being covered in too much algae growth.

The pleco finally cleaned off a spot on the glass that I missed wiping off. I just think he preferred the algae on the plants first. The live plants are all cleaned off now so he moved to cleaning windows.
This tank, the black skirts and red eyes spent yesterday morning romancing. If they are scattering eggs, then the eggs are way too small for my eyes to see.

The juvies angels are growing fast this week. My son who isn't into fish, had to ask are the fish are bigger than yesterday?
The black skirt/red eye tank. In the morning, they act like puppies being let loose in the last 10 minutes of puppy obedience class.

I am glad things are coming along well with your Angels and other fish as well.
How old is your son (if I can ask)?

Thanks for asking. The angels are coming along great and looking real healthy. The other fish are doing great. My son is 22. He works long hours as an IT specialist. When he comes home he puts his company computer by the fish tank. The angels race up to greet him.

It's the fish here talking to our forum fish buddies.
What a day we all had. Black Skirts, Red Eyes and Cories talking first. Supi got the planted aquarium bug and decided to put some plant substrate into the 56 T gal tank the other day to help out the plants that are growing in there. If the plants that she bought for this big tank a few months ago just died, she wouldn't have gotten the planted aquarium bug but they survived. Today she had the audacity to fish us out and stick us in that puny 10 gal tank. There were the angels in their 29 gal tank looking over the horizontal thermometer like gilroys watching us. All of them. Just their heads looking over. They think they can't be seen behind that black strip. Supi should had taken a picture of them peeking over. The tall tank took some time to catch us speed demons. The only happy campers was the male cory find 3 huge potential fully mature old breeder gals in the 10 gallon, that hadn't seen a male cory in 8 years. The male said he is young, they are older. Call those old gals cougars. After we arrived in this tank, supi started to put back the plants and ornaments in the big tank. For what? That lone oto still in the tank?
Angels are talking now. It was so darn funny watching them get netted in that big tank. Supi put a couple of freeze dried blood worms in our tank and we found ourselves being netted fast. Pay back for laughing at the others. After we got over our jet lag from the flight over to the 56 t gal, we started to explore. The joy we all felt seeing that huge sword plant is indescribably. We looked up and down the sword plant several times. It is glorious. There is so much more room in this tank. We can't believe we are in the big tank now. We are home at last. It's great!!! We love it.
BlackSkirts and Red Eyes. Here's that net again. Another flight. Guess the 10 gal was lay over. Thank goodness. A little cramped in there. 2 small algae eaters came with us on our flight. This 29 gal tank is just the right size for all of us and has a lot of plants for us hide in. We aren't playing "You're It" so far in this tank. The cories didn't come with us...
Cories turn to have their word: Gosh this is so much fun having a cory party. The old gals made us feel welcome. We hear there is going to great party food for the next several days to prepare us all for the water change. Maybe with some luck, the tank will look like it broke out with white round ball measles.
Supi told us we are all in our proper tanks now. Thank goodness!!!!!!!
bye bye for now.

Very silly post from the fishs' point of view. Were they thinking of food any of the time they were writing the story? lol

Glad you guys like the fish point of view.
Goldenpuon: They are always thinking of food.
The angels spent their day looking at their old tank. It is tempting to put a little strip of black electrical tape to put on the outside of the tank to see if they do their gilroy thing in this tank. My hub even commented the cories look like they are having so much fun together. The black skirts and red eyes are so much calmer in the smaller tank.

I love that you posted from your fish's perspective. I laughed so hard at that. Especially the idea that the fish from one tank were making fun of ones in the other tank. That is really creative and funny.

I am wondering if angels laughing was because they had a secret: Tiny snails in their former tank. Zillons of them. I bought 3 gourami's in hopes they eat a lot of snails. Clown loaches, I know are the favorite snail eating fish but the pet store clowns were huge. My husband fell in love with the gold gouramis. This blue gourami just kept getting back in the net so we came home with 2 golds and 1 blue. It wasn't until I arrived home that I realized he was looking at the giant gourami section instead of the dwarf gourami selection. I mentioned to my husband the mistake we made. He said.. "What? They get to be 3 inches big, then it is no big deal" I realized he has never seen a big gourami. The anacharis was stuck together so it would look bushy. The new fish dislodge them. As the plants were floating up, the snails that were hugging the plants bottom.
There's my son standing next to his buddies in crime (Angelfish). He is laughing hard and the angelfish are heads are going back and forth.

Murdock - I read about your adventures in snails. Snails mulitiply exponentially. Initial Snails(e^rt)
When my hub decided that he wanted a fish tank for father's day knowing I can keep fish for a long, long time. Good deal for him, he watches the fish, and I take care of the tanks. He has MS so he thought this would be something else to entertain him during the day. He retired from work last October. He is being entertained. We debated between going the gouramis route or the angel route for the big tank. We wanted some bigger fish. The gouramis are beautiful and they are real characters in the tank all ready.
