I am far from an apple snail expert, so this is my best guess. I have seen this before and the best understanding I have is the more white area is the area of more rapid shell growth, and is more common with tank raised snails that have ample food that often grow faster than the shell can thicken or properly form. Additional Calcium may help with this. Carl

Had him in my 100 gal but i was afraid the clown loaches would get him. So now he resides in a 10 gal with a few guppys =)
