no matter what you decide....just watch the water in the bucket closely and dump slowly.

I like the idea of straining the water into a net. I did look in the bucket Tuesday before I dumped it, but it's a white bucket, so the little ones are going to be almost impossible to find.
I'm definitely just going to have to take my time and be extra careful when vacuuming and when I empty the bucket.
Thanks!

White bucket is a MUST!!! The little guys are red at hatching so that makes it easier to see them...also get the smallest hose/siphon thingy you can find...takes forever but it works the best. If you have live plants...don't vacuum them..that is where the babies will be hiding. Kink your hose and watch the barrel part of the siphon very careful...if you have to look away to ck the water lvl in the bucket...kink the hose off totally. Also...take an old net...cut it off the medal part and use fishing line to wrap around the intake of your filter. I have it on my 10g at home...but not at work...I have to pull live babies out of the filter all the time when I change the media...how they live is beyond me but they do...I had a sponge on the one up here but it got so yucky that I could not clean it out enough for the water to flow through it anymore. I will be putting one on this one as soon as I find the other 1/2 of the net I used

I've got a sponge pre-filter on my intake tube. Do you think that's enough to keep them from getting sucked up, or do I need to pull out the filter cartridge and check it?
The babies that I've seen so far have been white, so I guess they're not as "newborn" as I thought... I will dig out a piece of airline tubing tomorrow and try doing a little gravel vacuuming. I'm so scared of sucking up some babies, but I really need to do some cleaning and a water change. Even if I just vac the open spaces that I can see relatively well, that would be better than nothing. Thanks for the tips Lori!

Sponge pre-filter should be enough but it never hurts to ck the media. Let me back up as far as color at hatching...they ranger from very light (almost white if you will) to pretty red molted looking...they will develop more color as they grow. Sry I got ahead of myself with out fully explaining
