i think it may be a lil overstalked....but as long as water changes are right and the aggression is minimal, i think its a great set up...

Eventually won't the angels pair off and kill each other? I could be wrong but I thought that once angels got to be adults they would not tolerate any other angels other than their mate.

Sorry Angel, I hope your other fish do better. I think with good filtration (& with your many decorations)your stocking is fine. See this article for more oon this subject: Aquarium Size, StuntingI have had several angels in larger tanks (such as 100 gallons/375 liters) and had them pair off without too much problem. The key was of coarse the tank size, but I also had copious amounts of decorations including fake/live plants and slate. Carl

hey guys im new to this forum an forums in general. i wondering if i am over stock for my tank as well
I've got a 135 gallon fresh water aquarium with a 33g sump with about 15-20 g of water in it. and about 4" deep with volcanic lava rock and some bio-balls floating on top. (just covers the surface). the stock in the aquarium is 1 12" black ghost knife.", 1 10" senegal bichir, 1 3.5" ctentopoma , 1 10" rhino pleco, 2 3" bristle nose plecos, 4 3-4" clown loaches, 7 3" congo tetras, 7 3-4" denosion barbs. the tank has been running for a 2 years or more. my problem is that my ammonia lvl has always read .25 ppm and has never been 0. nitrites are 0 and nitrates are about 40 ppm. i use tap water and treat with prime. i am wondering if there isnt enough bio filtration to remove the rest of the ammonia. i recently added about a 5 gallon bucket and a half more of lava rock to the sump, and a litre bucket of pond matrix. i wondering if that will help or if you can give any advice on what i should do next. oh and i change out 50% of display tank weekly for water change

I added the numbers and your tank is OK as per Bio Load, albeit close. Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Basic_Aquarium_Principles.htmlIf the sump is your only filter, especially without any mechanical filtration, I would consider adding some more, if even a large sponge filter such as the Hydro Sponge #5 Product Resource: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/SpongeFilter.htmlThe most simple way is the "Add Attachment" button on the upper right of the Reply Screen (not quick reply) You can also host pictures on Photobucket and then simply paste in here (there is a Turotial under the Google Search Bar) Carl

Let that Vrock seed and see if it helps. A sponge is a very good form of filtration too.

I would also add that an ammonia reading of .25 is quite acceptable and normal, as well there can be variances among test kits. From our Aquarium Nitrogen Cycle Article: "It is NORMAL in a healthy aquarium with an established nitrogen cycle for the ammonia levels to spike to .25 ppm and occasionally to .5 due to generally normal oscillations in the bio load of the aquarium. This is due to the fact the Autotrophic nitrifying bacteria do not immediately respond to these changes wastes in the water column."Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Nitrogen_Cycle.htmlCarl

ok great thanks carl. as for mechanical, i do have 3 layers of sheet floss (not sure what its actually called) filter the water before it hits the Vrock. although i was thinking of put a pre-filter on the outgoing pump as i notice some detris/debris makes it though. would a pre- fitler be the same iidea as a sponge? i got a quiet one pump cant remember the model though.

Nice tank. I love the rock work and driftwood. I'd like to find some large flat pieces of slate or some other rock.
