While I'm at it, here are some of my other new female. I just love the colors on this one and the one in the previous post. This is a Double-tail female, I believe.

Wow. She's beautiful! I have always loved green bettas. When I bred bettas a few years back, I got some that were dark green in color which I loved: most of the others were varying degrees of blue or red (and of course some mixed color ones from another spawn due to the parents' coloration).

I agree with Goldenpuon (Renee), beautiful fish.
She also appears to have a nice outgoing personality too!
BTW, Your Plants look very healthy too (Java Ferns ?)

Thanks! You can definitely tell these are not your average Big Box Store fish (same with the ones I got from SuzieQ).
What about the one in the pictures at the end of Page 1 of the thread, the darker colored one? Do you think it's a female? I'm not familiar enough with all the strains of betta to be able to tell for sure, since the fins seem rather long for a female, especially since it's not very old.

That one looks very much like a young male. The head is more compact/the fish seems to have larger gill area for flaring out and the body shape (at first glance) definitely seems male. So yes, I think this is a young male, or if he is older a short-finned specimen.
I have found that young bettas that look female often turn out to be males. That's why (if I were to get a betta again and say from a breeder), I would not get one under 5-6 months just in case. This male looks like he is 3 months old maybe give or take 3 weeks depending on his growth rate and how well he was taken care of when he was a fry.

I agree with Rene, this looks to be a male to me (a very nice one at that)
But maybe Lori will be along for her opinion, as she is quite the expert in this area!

I will definitely keep that one separate. From what they told me at the lfs, they are only a few months old. It seem to be displaying more male behavior, like attempted aggression toward the little female on the other side of the divider. And the finnage seems to grow more every day!

From what you said as per aggressive behavior and growing finnage, I am positive that is a male now. I agree that seperating them is best IMO.
