Thanks! Coming from you that really means something to me. I do my best to take care of them and I really do just love them.
As I said in my post, I highly recommend these guys. People just freak out when they see this tank. I can't wait for them to get full size. When my husband lived in West Virginia he had a tank with full grown Australian rainbows and he says they become even more brightly colored as adults. The thing I like about these fish is they are so active and bold. They never swim off and hide. And if you walk up close to the tank they all swim right towards your face and beg for food. It's nice to have fish that you always see whenever you look at the tank. That's also an aspect of the cory cats that I like. They are always on the move and out in the open. It's funny because they even try to school with the rainbow fish. I can't wait to get the New Guinea Reds. I'll be sure to take new pics when I get them in the next few weeks.

Nice pics kagome, thanks for sharing! As I noted in your blog post, I have found that rainbows will develop color over time with good care and feeding, so your healthy looking Rainbows should slowly color up. I think the New Guinea Red Rainbows are a beautiful iridescent color and would make a nice addition to your tank. When i had my business in LA, they were readily available at that time for reasonable prices (about $7-8 each) Carl

Thanks Carl. The LFS where I bought the other rainbows also has the New Guinea Reds and the Turquoise rainbowfish. They also have another variety but I am not sure of the name. It is silver with red and black stripes down the sides with an iridescent sheen to the scales. I know they are not the little Praecox, but I have not found a positive ID on them yet.
My husband and I talked about the choice between the reds and the turquoise and we decided that since we have purple, silver and yellow in the Australians and yellow and blue in the Boesemani that the reds would be a nice addition and contrast. If I thought I could fit eight in the tank I would gladly add the turquoise but I think that will be overstocking the tank. This wasn't my original plan for this tank and the circumstances that led me to changing my plans for it were rather unpleasant, but on the whole I am now very happy with this tank and enjoy it every day.

Beautiful fish. Great shots. Nice set up with the statues as well. Where the rainbows begging for food when you took the pictures? Because I know you mentioned they went nuts over food when you first got them.

Because I know you mentioned they went nuts over food when you first got them. Yes, they are begging. They will follow my face if I stand near the tank which is pretty awesome when I'm trying to take pictures because all four of them come right in front of me and stay right there. I'm going to try and take a video. They are also starting to eat out of my hands. I'm going to get them some frozen bloodworms as a treat and then they'll probably tear my fingers off! lol Thanks for the compliment bikeguy!

Very cute Kagome. lol Some of my guppies will nibble at my fingers during feeding time. I have a young male I am selling this week who keeps trying to nibble at a beauty mark on my hand and eat it. I don't think he's ever gonna get it. lol
