I got some freshwater shrimps today. I have 2 tanks (10 gallons) setup one for the red cherry shrimps and the other for the light blue shrimps. I admit this is my first time with shrimp. I know they eat algae and need sponge filters. Is there anyone out there with these as pets? Any advice for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

i have a pair of red freshwater shrimp really funny little guys, i absolutely enjoy them
really easy to take care of i feed them once every other day with shrimp pellets, and they absolutely love them
don't know about the blue ones though, they might be different, but shouldn't
make sure you have good water parameters, and that the water level is not to high, or they will climb out of your tank if they can

Welcome to EA ajspet!!! Sorry I missed this one (Thanks Carl)...
I raise RCS (Red Cherry Shrimp)...as Eve said..they are very easy to raise. A sponge filter is great but these guys do best in water with a light current (or at least mine breed better with a current)...I run a HOB on one side and a sponge on the other...the sponge gives them a place to graze. What I did was to get a cheap Walmart HOB (hangs on back) filter (Aquatech I think) and took an old fish net (took it apart) and covered the intake with the material...secured it with fishing line...this keeps the new hatched shrimp fry from being sucked up but does not keep the "yuck" from being filtered out. Also...live plants are great!!! I have a mixture of Azoo (from Carl) and Eco-Complete in my RCS tank with Christmas Moss (I think..I forget...got it from Steph I think...sorry don't remember)...anyway this gives the fry a place to hide and looks really nice...dark green moss and bright red shrimp!! Shrimp are scavangers so anything that hits the bottom is fair game. Omega One shrimp pellets (sometimes found at Petsmart) are great. RCS will eat algae if it is the only food available so don't be disappointed if you have green algae growing on the glass. Mine have only eaten the brown algae.
As far as the blues...I don't know. Where did you get them? Any pictures?
