still in debate. pretty sure were going with yellow labs. but to find the females were going to have to order online or travel to chicago a 3 hour drive. im trying to figure out the math in my head. they want to charge 8 dollars online. or 2 dollars in person per fish. and im not sure if the gas would be cheaper thent he shipping cost. either way its going to be a good pretty penty to get them home.

One thought in making this decision besides cost is customer service/quality of stock. If this store has good customer service and generally well cared for, healthy stock (Be wary of stores with central filter systems), it is worth the drive IMO. On the other hand, if the online store you know from either experience or from others you trust to sell well cared for stock and that they stand behind their stock, they may be the better choice. My point is if you only shop based on price, you may in the end pay more in either sick fish (which will cost you in meds), poor quality equipment, poor customer service after the purchase, etc. Carl

I can`t believe yellows are tough to find close to home. they are the most common aquaria cichlid there is. talk to your local fish store....most will order fish for you...

labs are abundant here as well, but all we have is Petsmart and they don't know anything about sexing fish and they will not order anything that's not on their "list" - and like Mematrix said yesterday, who wants to pay $45 to ship a $7 fish?

i have same problem as murdock. the fish stores here do not know how to sex the fish and i dont want to risk getting all males or 2 males to 1 female and having to replace a male and take the chance of hoping they replace it with a female or ill have to continue to do it until i finally get 2 females to the 1 male ratio i need. and im fine with paying 7 dollars for a local fish at petsmart but they dont know what they are doing. and the local fish stores can order fish but they cant order specific sexes so its whatever they get in and im not sure if anyone there knows how to sex either.
