Oh wow, poor guy. That looks horrible! That does not look at all like a ruptured abscess, which is good. I asked about where it was because a ruptured abscess in the jaw area can mean strep, which I think I'm understandably paranoid about right now. I'm glad that he seems to be doing better. This whole discussion (no pun intended) about rupturing parasites makes me think about the movie Alien. That has got to be painful, but it is amazing what fish can recover from. I hope that he heals well and soon!

It is crazy!!! I hope he is able to pull through and recover..Things seem good now but I know that could change in an instant.

This whole discussion (no pun intended) about rupturing parasites makes me think about the movie Alien. Funny you should bring up the movie AlienYears back me and others in the aquarium maintenance business in LA called the condition where by a parasite bursts through the outer body of a fish; "The Alien Effect". This looked much different than Brenda's fish, as well this was 98% fatal Carl

I'm so sorry your fish is sick. I hope he heals up ok. He looks pretty healthy aside from the wound and white stuff on him. So even though he's sick, he doesn't look too far gone. I hope your fish gets well soon!
