im going to attempt to make my own tank divider not anytime soon but im sure it will come in handy one day even if i dont use it. just to have one in case i want to use it in the future.
what materials do you guys suggest and has anyone done this before?
i was thinking of possibly either a screen soo i can still have water flow soo i wont have to duel filter or heat.
and wondering if like mesh or nylon material would work for the screen like at the crafts section of walmart or something even cheaper.
and what would be a safe material to use for a frame on it. i was thinking aluminum cuz im not sure if wood would be the best bet considering it is going to be in the water and it does warp when it gets wet and takes in water and expands.
thaughts suggestions. or even directions if someone has previously done this succesfully themselves.
if done already what was the price of materials?

I just used plastic needlepoint canvas to make a divider type thing for a net breeder. I would think that you could use it to make a divider for a tank, as long as you can find a big enough piece for the tank that you want to divide. The piece of plastic canvas I bought was about 12X18, I think. That should be good for a 10 gallon tank. It was only $1.59. But I'm not sure what would be a good frame for that though.

awesome thanks. i was actually considering using it for my 28 gallon bow front.
24 long 15 wide at the bow and 19 deep soo i think your idea would work for that aswell i just wont be able to use it at the bow and might have to find a bigger peice.

ive been google searching for frames. and i think a poster frame would work the best with the needlepoint backing.
anyone else feel free to help me search or suggest anything else to search for.
this is a real mind boggler for me. youd think that someone would have a needle point mounted on a wall or something, thus needing a frame.
thanks
James
also wondering if anything else would work as a frame or what if i just taped the top of the needle point to the outsides of my tank and burried the bottom in the gravel?

awesome thanks renee. i still think im going to pass up on the plexi glass method tho. just because you have to silicone either a binder or the plexiglass itself to the tank. since i dont want to ruin my tank ill just have to find a simpler sturdier way to do such. possibly siliconing a bracket system to the plexi glass soo its on legs instead of ruining my tank with silicone.
plexi glass does seem like a good method and the way she made it im thinking almost anything plastic will work aswell might look into getting a cheap sheet of black plastic twice the size of the needlepoint backing and cutting it in half soo that way i can have a front and back and then cutting the windows out not near as thick as she did only an inch or 2 and half inches around the edges maybe a little bigger on the bottom soo i can fasten my legs on there. and then doing all the steps.
any thaughts on using brackets for legs?
thanks again renee. more brains searching helps a ton!

I'm afraid I can't give any advice on your drawing. I again have never made a tank didvdier from stratch myself. I just did a quick search to get that link I posted earlier.
One thing I can say is that there should be lots of tiny holes in the mesh part (if you have seen the pictures on the link I posted) for air flow. Good luck! Hope your divider comes out nice!

That looks pretty good. What are you going to use for brackets? The link that you have above doesn't work.

Ok, I see. It looks like that would work pretty well as long as they are rust proof. Plus you shouldn't have to worry about it floating around either. neat!

I second that Babygeige. Make sure they're rust proof. I once had metal from a divider I bought from the petstore get really rusty. The fish seemed ok but I wouldn't imagine it's good for them.

awesome im looking for plastic brackets soo i shouldnt have rust. and if i have to im sure theres an aquatic safe paint that i can dip not spray. cuz i think dipping and drying would give it a thicker coat speially if i dip it 3 times.

I'm afraid I don't know about paints you dip vs. spray. What I do know is that it should be safe for fish. Sorry I can't help more. Again, I have never made my own divider, all I can do is give a few tips.
