as you all know, or most of you anyway, I have a manmade pond that I built last year to raise platys in - just picked up 20 adults of 3 species (4 males and 16 females) many of the females are pregnant already - best part is they only cost me $30 and the lady threw in a whole bunch of yellow/black tuxedo fry! now all the weather has to do is cooperate and I will be back in the pond business again - oh, they are striped yellow sunsets, white mickey mouse and blue high fin mickey mouse! am pretty excited, can ya tell!

That's great Murdock! Just be sure to seperate the males and females eventually after you get as many fry as you can handle. Even if they're only in there 5 months since you live up north, they can easily reproduce enough to fill several of those ponds in a 5 month period! Congrats though. Hope it turns out well!

I missed last year's project I guess but I look forward to this year's. What do you do with all the platy's you breed? Can they stay in the pond through the winter? just curious

I sell them at a not so local fish store for peanuts - the project is more for fun and no, being Central American and SA, they'd freeze to death I would imagine - ususally shut it down on October

Steph, you might be able to see one if you go to my photobucket album in members pictures - that whole tank last night was not deceptive to good pictures - the nanosecond delay in the reaction of the camera to the pushing of the button was very frustrating in trying to get a good picture even without the flash - no macro setting.....
