As I tried (quite verbosely too 
) to explain in *this thread* a while back, I had to use all of the adapters that came with my Filter Max #3's to get them to fit on the Aqueon intakes.
You can go back and read the post if you want but I'll make it easier and post a diagram:
I've decided I'm tired of my Filter Max #3 pre-filters sticking out into my tank. They take up alot of horizontal space that could be occupied by plants.
Adding the 2nd elbow unfortunately isn't possible, even though it would be an easy fix, because it makes the intakes too long to fit into the tank.
Which I guess leaves me with the option of using Teflon tape and trying to modify them somehow. I just don't if it's safe and I don't know if it would even work.
