 Correct orientation for UV sterilizer?
« Thread Started on Sept 21, 2011, 9:26am »

I have a TMC Pond sterilizer (UV025) plumbed to the output side of my canister filter.

I have the sterilizer mounted to the wall per the TMC instructions, page 2, so that the inlet and outlet are both facing downward.

Is that a good way to do it when using it with a canister filter?

Also, I have a ball valve inserted in the intake line between the tank and the canister. I have another ball valve inserted in the output line between the tank and the sterilizer. (There's a stop valve in the canister head as well). Is that fine or should I change that?

With the Advantage UVs (unlike their Vecton UV models which do not come in a 25 watt model), you really have no other option other than turning it the other way which is not going to be any different as per head pressure or other factors; so the short answer is this is fine as long as there are no tubing "kinks".

As to ball valves, it is always best for your pump or filter to be on the outlet side whenever possible, so since you have a ball valve already on the outlet, IMO I think just this one should be OK, but if you find it is needed for ease of removal, etc., this is OK too, just be sure to use the outlet side to control water flow.

Now that I think about it, I don't need the ball valve on the intake side. If I want to isolate the intake tube itself, I can do that at the canister head. If I want to isolate the UV sterilizer, I can do that with the canister head and the ball valve on the output side.
